Mission Statement:

The primary mission of the Cuyahoga County Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Trace Evidence Department, is to assist the Medical Examiner in ascertaining the cause and manner of death by determining identity, cause, and circumstances surrounding death, and to assist law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations, both in and out of Cuyahoga County through recognition, collection, and scientific analysis of trace evidence. The Cuyahoga County Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Trace Evidence Department, is committed to providing excellent forensic services to the community and its clients by ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness in all trace evidence analyses performed.

 

 

 

 

The Trace Evidence Department performs the collection and analysis of any items of trace evidence that are recovered or collected from Medical Examiner's cases that are indicated as homicide, suicide, or suspicious. 

The purpose of any forensic examination is to provide an evidentiary link between a victim and a suspect, a victim and a crime scene, or a suspect and a crime scene.  Any evidentiary link obtained must be established through sound scientific principles.
